Coffee Hour #1: Kicking off the Semester with Caroline Danehy

On Monday, February 8th, Colgate Women in Business kicked off our first coffee hour of the semester with Colgate alumni Caroline Danehy ‘19. While at Colgate, Caroline was a part of Colgate’s Thought into Action Incubator, an entrepreneurship program that challenges participants to take action in building, testing, and launching solutions that make an impact in the world.

Caroline and her brother, Jake Danehy ‘16 are co-founders of Fair Harbor, a lifestyle brand with an eco-friendly clothing line. Fair Harbor is a small company with 9 employees, and Caroline works on creative aspects of the company including marketing, branding, and design. As the owner of a retail business during the COVID-19 pandemic, Caroline was able to give the students an interesting perspective to what struggles she has faced. To overcome obstacles that the COVID-19 pandemic posed on their business, Caroline explained how she had to adapt marketing materials by being able to pivot quickly and being mindful of their tone to reflect current events and conditions in the world.

Her piece of advice: ASK QUESTIONS! Don’t be afraid to act like you don’t know it all– be confident, open, and vulnerable to curiosity in order to grow. She encourages everyone to work hard, be curious, and follow their passions.
